Sinwoo Lee specializes in the urban and cultural history of modern Korea. Her current research focuses on Seoul’s urban transformation from the opening of the ports to the early colonial period (1876-1919). She received her Ph.D. in modern Korean history at UCLA, and has previously taught at Claremont McKenna College. For the current academic year, she is teaching Cultural History of Modern Korea: Since 1876 (K180C) in the winter quarter, and Contemporary Korean History: Seoul Palimpsest: History, Memory, and its Communities (K191B) in the spring quarter.
