Raisa Stebbins is a PhD student in Japanese Literature.  She received her MA from University of Colorado – Boulder in Japanese Literature. She studies how premodern poets conceived of place and how this poetic geography was aestheticized and transmitted through time into the modern era. She is particularly interested in Man’yōshū, and her research seeks to incorporate digital tools as a method to examine large poetry anthologies. Past and present research interests include: modern and premodern poetry; maps and geography; human interactions with wild lands; theatre; avant-garde; the theatrical theories of Betsuyaku Minoru and Terayama Shūji; theories of audience and reception; theatrical technologies in modern and premodern theatre.
