Allison Robertson is a Ph.D. student of Classical Japanese Literature. She holds a B.A. in Japanese Language (2020) and an M.A. in East Asian Studies (2023), both from UCLA. Her research focuses on gender, anomalous figures, and the literary function of physical transformation in supernatural narratives of late Heian Japan. She seeks to expand her previous research on the shapeshifting kitsune to further explore literary representations of non-normative figures, practices, and spaces in the Konjaku monogatarishū (12th c.) and other premodern narratives.
