Jordan A. Y. Smith (Ph.D., UCLA Comparative Literature) researches and teaches contemporary Japanese literature / culture and comparative literature. He has served as Associate Professor of Intercultural Studies at Josai International University, teaching in the MA programs in Translation Studies and International Administration; Assistant Professor at CSU Long Beach in Comparative World Literature; and has served in visiting positions at UC Riverside, Pepperdine, Waseda University, and Sophia University. Producer of television, film, and documentary for a variety of media companies, including BBC World Service, BBC Radio 4, and Naro TV. Author of several volumes of poetry in English and Japanese (Syzygy; Sea of Trees; √IC: Redux), and translator of many of Japan’s leading contemporary poets. Editor-in-Chief (emeritus) of Tokyo Poetry Journal. Art curator for exhibitions at DIESEL Art Gallery in Shibuya, Tokyo, N&A Gallery (Tokyo), and Arts Maebashi.
