Xiangyu Wang is a PhD student in Chinese language and literature at UCLA. He received an MA in Chinese from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2023, an MA in East Asian Studies from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign in 2020, and a BA in Chinese language and literature from Wuhan University in 2018. His research interests include early Chinese historiography and excavated manuscripts, especially how Warring States manuscript texts reframed Spring-and-Autumn period hegemons to promote political ideology. By focusing on how narrative descriptions of rulers intertwine with didactic materials, he is interested in how these interactions shaped early Chinese discourse on ideal kingship.
